MotoGP is heading to Adelaide in 2027, bringing the world’s premier motorcycle racing championship to a new city-centre street circuit in South Australia. The inaugural Adelaide MotoGP event is scheduled for 12–14 November 2027, with the Australian Grand Prix becoming Round 21 of the 22-round MotoGP calendar. The race will be the penultimate round of the 2027 season, before the championship concludes in Valencia, Spain, later that month.

The arrival of MotoGP in Adelaide represents a major change for the Australian round of the championship. From 2027, the Australian Grand Prix will move from Phillip Island to Adelaide under a six-year agreement running through 2032. MotoGP says the Adelaide event will be the championship's first Grand Prix held on a city-centre circuit.

A New Street Circuit in the Heart of Adelaide

The Adelaide Street Circuit has been designed around the city's existing roads and the legacy of the famous Adelaide street circuit that hosted Formula 1 between 1985 and 1995. The latest circuit unveiling describes a 4.13-kilometre layout with 15 corners, incorporating sections inspired by Adelaide's motorsport history, including Stag Corner, Rundle Road, Brewery Bend and Dequetteville Terrace. The circuit is being developed specifically for modern MotoGP competition, with safety standards playing a central role in its design. MotoGP has also highlighted the unusual setting of racing through the heart of the city, giving spectators an urban backdrop rather than the traditional surroundings of a permanent racing circuit.

When Is the Adelaide MotoGP?

The first Adelaide MotoGP weekend is scheduled for:

  • Friday, November 12, 2027 – opening event activities and track sessions

  • Saturday, November 13, 2027 – qualifying and sprint-race action

  • Sunday, November 14, 2027 – Australian Grand Prix

The official MotoGP calendar places Adelaide immediately after the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika on October 31 and before the season finale in Valencia on November 28. That scheduling gives the Australian round an important position in the championship, with only one Grand Prix remaining after Adelaide.

A Different Kind of Australian MotoGP Experience

Moving MotoGP to Adelaide changes more than the location on the calendar. Instead of racing at a dedicated circuit outside the city, riders will compete on a street circuit integrated into Adelaide's urban environment. MotoGP has described the event as a festival-style urban Grand Prix, combining motorcycle racing with the city's culture and major-event infrastructure. The project is also intended to create longer-term improvements to public spaces and parklands around the circuit. For spectators, the city-centre setting could also make the race weekend part of a broader Adelaide travel experience, with accommodation, restaurants, entertainment and other attractions located close to the event area.

What Fans Can Expect

The new circuit is expected to provide a very different challenge for MotoGP riders. Street circuits typically offer a combination of tight corners, walls and barriers close to the racing line, limited margins for error and a layout that can be difficult to master. The Adelaide design also brings back elements of the city's historic motorsport landscape while adapting them for modern motorcycle racing. Official MotoGP information says the event will return to Adelaide annually through 2032, giving South Australia a long-term place on the MotoGP calendar rather than hosting a one-off event.

Adelaide Joins a Changing 2027 MotoGP Calendar

Adelaide is one of two new venues introduced for the 2027 MotoGP season. The other is Buenos Aires, Argentina, marking MotoGP's return to the country. The 2027 championship will feature 22 Grands Prix across five continents, beginning in Thailand in March and ending in Valencia in November. Adelaide will be the penultimate stop of the season.

For Australian motorsport fans, the change creates a new chapter for the country's MotoGP round. For Adelaide, it places the city on a global motorsport calendar and introduces a new international sporting event directly into its streets. With the first Adelaide MotoGP now scheduled for November 2027, attention will turn toward the completion of the circuit, event preparations and the arrival of the MotoGP grid for the championship's first city-centre race in Australia.
